Pretty Projects: Whistler Wedding Shawl

Several months ago, on the eve of my wedding, I received a beautiful sample skein of Fibrelya's bamboo/merino mix sock yarn, Bamba, when I ordered their self-striping sock yarn for the shop. I took one look at the gorgeous purple-and-grey colorway called Callicarpa, with its subtle blue speckles, and was in love. It certainly produced the desired effect, because not only did I order it for the shop, but I also immediately cast-on my wedding shawl from it.  And by "immediately," I mean as fast as I could wind it, find a pattern, and get that yarn on my...

Pretty Projects: Jess's Chesapeake Shawl

How lovely is this gorgeous shawl? The pattern is from The Chesapeake Needle, one of our favorite designers. You can find it here on Ravelry, along with my project page. The yarns are JOMA Yarns Sock-a-Rino in Cake for Breakfast, and Onion Organic Cotton in turquoise. Truthfully, this is supposed to be a two-skein shawl, but apparently, I'm unable to crochet anywhere near gauge. I mean, not even close. So after I ran out of sock yarn, I added the Organic Cotton. I wasn't sure if this was a good idea -- after all, mixing wool and cotton is not...

Pretty Projects: Jess's Kanata Kerchief Tank

I recently finished this gorgeous crocheted tank top, a Kanata Kerchief Tank. The pattern is free on Ravelry! The tank top is essentially four large granny squares sewn up, with straps and trim added to stabilize it.  The Onion Organic Cotton worked absolutely perfectly for this beautiful project. I made sure to block each square to the same size, and shortened the straps to make the tank fit my body. It might seem a bit short in front for some folks -- it hits me right at my belly button. But the long, draping sides will move to cover you, and with a...

Pretty Projects: Kath's African Daisy Bandana

Our customer Kath created this gorgeous bandana-style cowl out of one skein of Dragonfly Fibers' Traveller DK in African Daisy. The brilliant colors in the yarn really pop in this adorable and easy project. We love it! To make one for yourself, pick up a skein of Traveller DK, a super-soft hand-dyed merino in any of Dragonfly Fibers' stunning colorways, then head over to Kath's Ravelry page for the project, where she gives easy instructions for making your own bandana cowl. Great job, Kath!

Pretty Projects: Reversible Synco-Brioche Hat

Our customer and Ravelry group member, Kaitlin, made this gorgeous hat by blending two different patterns, using Eden Cottage's Millburn 4-Ply in Estuary and Autumn Fields. She then loaned it to me to take photos for our site. I can safely say it was hard to send it back to her! I wore it as a slouchy hat, but she rolls the (reversible!) brim up and wears it as a beanie.  You can find her Ravelry Project Page here, with links to the patterns she used and notes on what she did to alter them.  Since we just introduced another five colors of...
