GOING OUT OF BUSINESS! ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
Product Description: Shetland Heritage yarn recreates the original characteristics of handspun ‘wursit’ used in old Fair Isle garments. The yarn is replicated from that found in knitted Fair Isle garments in the collection of Shetland Museum and Archives.
Wool experts, specialist dyers, curators and knitters have worked together to develop and trial Shetland Heritage yarn, which is worsted spun from Jamieson & Smith’s combed tops to give a soft feel, and a smooth finish. The yarn is slightly finer than the four ply used today to knit stranded colorwork and Fair Isle. Instead, it gives a definition and complexity of colour and pattern that goes right back to the nineteenth century.
Weight: light fingering
Please Note: If you would like more of any Jamieson & Smith yarn than we have in stock, we can probably order it for you directly. The average time on this is 2-3 weeks from the UK. We can also get most colors in 1000g cones upon request (4800 yards). Email and ask.
Fairlight Fibers Notes: Jamieson & Smith Shetland Heritage Colors is softer than most Shetland wool, as it is worsted spun. It is solidly dyed, with not much heather. It is perfect for fair isle projects. The skeins are small, but this is so that you can order several colors for fair isle work. Please keep quantities in mind when you purchase this yarn! This yarn is slightly finer in weight than a standard fingering weight yarn, and doesn't necessarily play well with other weights (tension issues abound). Want natural colors? Try the Shetland Heritage Naturals, which are the same weight!
