Mankell Mitts: Fairlight Fibers and K.2.the.Moon

Mankell Mitts begin with a German Twisted Cast-on, to create a stretchy cuff that will fit over the hand. Several initial rounds of Waffle Stitch establish the cuff; extra repeats of this section may be added if a longer mitt is desired. Stockinette Stitch covers the palm area. This flatter texture suits the potential demands of the hand, creating less bulk, and an ease of flexibility. Thumb gusset increases begin above the base of the hand, and are later placed onto waste yarn. New stitches are then supplemented with a Backwards-loop Cast-on. Subsequent decreases allow the mitt to follow the form of the hand and taper slightly during the final rounds. An Icelandic Bind-off provides a suitably stretchy finish which also matches the cast-on edge!
